Customers / Success Stories / Vertbaudet

With a little help from SCORT, improving customer
service is child's play for Vertbaudet.

A subsidiary of the PPR Group (Pinault-Printemps-Redoute),
Vertbaudet has been
a leading mail order company for over 30 years, specialising
in clothing, toys and accessories for children from 0 to 12
years old and maternity wear.

 |
| Presentation... |
Vertbaudet
rightly regards itself as a true partner for children
in their first steps, their first games and their first
adventures.
The company has an annual turnover of over £100
million and
a workforce of around 600 people.
Twice a year, Vertbaudet publishes a 250-pages catalogue
of exclusive fashion collections for children and mothers-to-be,
as well as an extensive range of toys and equipment.
Today these collections are available on Vertbaudet's
website which aims at offering children (and their parents)
more than just everyday clothing - in fact a complete
lifestyle.
The Internet, the new E-Commerce channel.
Until recently, a customer could only order from Vertbaudet
by mail, telephone or videotex terminal. The existing
central information system would check whether the products
ordered were in stock, what the price was, record the
order and process the electronic payment.
The bringing together of a new distribution channel via
the Internet with a total integration of the applications
on the central information system became a natural progression.
Furthermore, the Internet now provides Vertbaudet's customers
with an online access to all the product ranges in the
catalogue complete with photographs of each item. The
project went out to tender and the successful partner
integrator was quickly able to deploy the SCORT solution.
Vertbaudet chose the relevant SCORT solution as it well
fitted their requirements, can easily evolve to meet future
growth and provides direct access to existing applications
without the need to modify the central information system. |
 |
| Architecture... |
The Vertbaudet
e-Business web portal is based on an architecture comprising
a Silverstream Web Application Server and SCORT
E-Business Integrator for real time access to Vertbaudet's
back office systems (CICS transactions via a Telnet 3270
interface).
The SCORT server provides the integration of the "business
oriented" processes within the new "customer
oriented" application. These back-end processes are
mainly dealing with the financial and logistic aspects,
order processing, customer relationship management, stock
control, etc. for a complete reuse of Vertbaudet's legacy-based
applications without any re-writing.
Furthermore, details of all products in the Vertbaudet
catalogue are managed on a database directly linked to
the Web Application Server.
Thanks to this architecture, the customer has simultaneous
access to both the catalogue and pricing/availability
of the products which allows him to place and pay for
his order online. |
 |

 |
| Évolution... |
| Today Vertbaudet
is taking the opportunity to implement a one-to-one marketing
strategy aimed at Internet users, whether they are prospects
or existing customers. In this respect the Vertbaudet
website will be able to easily handle the growth in new
business thanks to the scalability of the chosen solution. |
